A counter point on the “don’t check luggage” point. If you *can’t* pack light, check your damn bag. I’m so sick of some thoughtless person who tries to cart a full suitcase on the plane because “maybe there’s extra overhead space”. No. The flight will be full. They will have someone with a ramrod outside the plane trying to get one more paying customer inside that fuselage. CHECK THE DAMN BAG.

Nice tip on the “don’t rely on family to pick you up”. When you have a large family (6 siblings for me), best to make your own arrangements to get to/from the airport. You control your time then and your family will also appreciate not having to come get you or drop you off during the busiest travel time! Especially if they are “hosting” and have loads of other things to do too.

Great tips! Thanksgiving is one of the cheapest weeks of the year here (for hotels) because no one is traveling for business. Airfare and train tickets are the total opposite though.
